Welcome to the Sketchbook Challenge 2012!

All of us at the Sketchbook Challenge are very excited about spending another year working in our sketchbooks with all of you.  For those of you who are joining us for the first time this year I thought it would be a good idea to post a recap of how the sketchbook challenge works.

On the first day of each month on The Sketchbook Challenge blog we announce a  new theme and then post images from our sketchbooks related to that theme throughout the month.  We hope that by giving you a peek inside our sketchbooks and showing you how different they all are that we’ll inspire you to start keeping a sketchbook too and we've set up a flickr group where you can post photos of your sketchbooks.  You'll find the group here.  For information and help on uploading photos to flickr click here.  (scroll down to the center of the page for the information on uploading to flickr).

You can work in any medium that you like - paint, watercolor, pen & ink, charcoal, collage, marker, crayon or something else.  You might even want to use this as an opportunity to explore a medium that you've never tried.  This is a great time to break into those supplies that you bought but never got around to taking out of the package and using.  Your sketchbook should be a reflection of you and you should feel free to explore and work in any mediums that you want.

You don't have to do anything special to sign up for the challenge and there is no deadline or sign up by date.  It's an open challenge so you can join in anytime you like and participate as much as you want.  If you'd like to put a blog badge on your own blog to show your participation in the Sketchbook Challenge project you can download the badge here.

You'll find some frequently asked questions and answers about the sketchbook challenge here.  if you have a question that is not answered on that page then email it to

And lastly -  always remember that the most important rule about participating in the sketchbook challenge is...

Have fun with it!
