Aprils Theme: Spirals!

The theme for April 2013 is Spirals

 SPIRALS

I am Frances Holliday Alford, and it is my honor to be your theme host for this month.

The word SPIRAL comes from the Latin, Spirus, meaning of a spiral (or a coil).
In mathematics, a spiral is a curve which emanates from a central point, getting progressively farther away as it revolves around the point. (Wikapedia)
......................................................................................

In geometry, a golden spiral is a logarithmic spiral whose growth factor is φ, the golden ratio.[1] That is, a golden spiral gets wider (or further from its origin) by a factor of φ for every quarter turn it makes.  (Wikipedia)

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Then, there are our spirals.  I love to sketch spirals.  They show up in my doodles and regularly in my free motion quilting patterns.  This morning, they landed on my Easter Eggs.

<<<<<@@@@@@@@@@@@@@>>>>>

Spirals appear in many common, and not so common, items.

 Seashells
Staircases

Floral Images

Background overall design.
Quilting designs, floral design.

This is an early quilt of mine, "D-Cups and Tea Cups.  Notice the spiral design toward the bottom which I used because it reminded me of the old fashioned spiral quilting on bras.

I did this small quilt with beach ball images, reminders of shell forms and spirals.

Spiral shaped novelty paper clips are added to this piece.
I hope the month of April brings us lots of images using the spiral.  It is universal, it is the ultimate balance.  It is fun.

Just don't let it get you stressed.  It is supposed to be fun, Right?

How to be eligible for prize drawings:
In order to be eligible for one of the April 2013 prize packages you must post at least one photo of a sketchbook page related to the April 2013
theme to the Sketchbook Challenge Flickr group and you MUST tag one of your photos with the code "apr267".

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING TAGGING YOUR PHOTOS WITH THE PRIZE CODES:  PLEASE DO NOT TAG MORE THAN ONE PHOTO WITH THE PRIZE TAG - IT DOES NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING AND IT MAKES IT HARDER AND MORE TEDIOUS TO GENERATE THE WINNING LIST EACH MONTH - THANK YOU!

Post as many photos as you like but only put the special tag on one of them.

Information on how to upload photos to flickr can be found here.

Winners will be chosen by random draw on the last day of April and announced here on the Sketchbook Challenge blog.
