Grab your sketchbook and go outside (if it's warm enough!) and draw flowers.
1
1. looking carefully at the flower, sketch it in pencil.
2
2. Once you've got the basic shape, refine the drawing. Try to look at what you're drawing 80% of the time, and your paper 20%.

3
3. Ink the pencil drawing, still looking closely at the flower. Erase the pencil marks.
4
4. Watercolor! Leave plenty of the white of the paper showing.

  9. I love this blog and it's challenges. But I must say. If the winner is selected by random draw, what is the point of it being called a challenge?? What's the point of the work, the craft, the talent? I think it would be best done by popular vote then it truly becomes a CHALLENGE.. otherwise is just like the lotto, bingo, or any non-challenging event. This has turned me down a lot.

  10. Thanks for your comment Laura. The prize giveaways are not supposed to be the motivation for working in your sketchbook to the current monthly theme, they’re just an added bonus meant as a reward to motivate participants to share their work.

The SC is all about realizing the value of spending time working your sketchbook and the theme that we post each month is meant to help kick start that process. The SC is not about comparing any one’s work to any body else’s and it was never intended to be a competition. It’s about providing an encouraging, inspiring and sharing environment for each persons individual creative journey no matter what their skill set and experience is.

  11. Sue, you couldn't have explained the rationale of the prize giveaways any better. I'm in full agreement. Thanks for making this clear for everyone. Now to enjoy the flowers!
